Ahmedabad University has launched Global Centre for Environment and Energy with a motive to undertake scientific studies for assessing and developing alternative energy sources. The centre will undertake research projects and carry out a detailed study in the following areas: -
- Energy efficiency policies and technologies
- Environmental conservation
- Environmental economics
- Global climate change
- Impacts of climatic changes
- Wastewater recovery
- Mitigation policies
- Behaviour models in energy and environment
- Evolution and biology
After launching the centre officially, Ahmedabad University organised a panel discussion on ‘Plan B: Looking through the Sustainability Lens’. The Chairperson of Global Centre for Environment & Energy, Mr. P R Shukla, Executive Director of Arvind Limited, Mr. Punit Lalbhai and Assistant Process at School of Arts and Sciences (Ahmedabad University), Mr. Subhash Rajpurohit took part in the panel discussion. The discussion majorly focused on far-reaching influences of climate change, and the way people could lead a sustainable life.
Mr. P R Shukla has also been associated with IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change). He is the lead author of nine reports of IPCC, who has been awarded ‘Contribution to the Award of Nobel Peace’ certificate.
Ahmedabad University’s move in setting up Global Centre for Environment and Energy is highly appreciable. The world has been witnessing drastic changes in the climatic conditions, and it is becoming difficult to predict the weather conditions. Carrying a detailed study on the global climatic issues will address the problems to some extent.
