AICTE Initiative to Curb Unemployment amongst Engineers and MBAs

AICTE is taking measures to find out the exact reasons for unemployment amongst engineering and management graduates. The regulator for technical education in India is prepping up to come up with a ‘perspective plan 2030’.

The Council will appoint a private firm to analyse various issues that lead to unemployment. The plan will take into account the market and industry needs until 2030. Once the plan is ready, changes will be introduced in the curriculum to curb unemployment and increase job opportunities for graduates.

Steps taken by AICTE to Reduce Unemployment:

  • Understand the reasons behind demand and supply gap, redundancy of certain courses, geographical imbalances and vacant seats in technical institutes.
  • A committee has been appointed by AICTE to draft the terms and references of the perspective plan 2030 – the first perspective plan in the field of technical education.
  • A retired professor of the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, has been hired to help in the task. Engineering, architecture and management are the subjects that will be covered.
  • Institutes with poor placement records will be offered assistance in order to ensure better placement opportunities.
  • Quality to teaching, learning, efficiency of faculty, etc. will also be taken into consideration.
  • A timeline has also been fixed to make sure that the study is completed within the assigned time.

These steps have been taken to ensure that there is no redundancy amongst courses. This will help in reducing the number of vacant seats at colleges. A model curriculum is also being prepared that will address the future demands.
