All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC) welcomed the Union Government's decision for establishing an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Jammu- the winter capital of Jammu & Kashmir.
The President of AJKPC Anil Sharma said that they welcomed the decision of the Central Government, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for giving the cabinet approval for the establishment of an IIM in Jammu from the current academic year (2016-17). They also hailed the decision and approval of Rs. 100 crore for modernisation of the infrastructure at NIT in Srinagar.
Sharma castigated former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for "opposing IIM in Jammu". He alleged that former CM was "creating a gap between the two regions of J&K for petty politics".
Omar had termed the Centre's decision to set up an IIM in Jammu as politically motivated and hit out at Mehbooba. He said that CM had sold her soul to remain in power.
Omar questioned why Jammu gets both the IIT & the IIM. He also questioned those who had called for balanced regional development in J&K have now disappeared.
