Amity University Noida has conferred Doctor of Philosophy Degree to President of Liberia, Her Excellency Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Nobel Laureate- President of Liberia in her recent visit to the University.
The Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (D. Phil) Honoris Causa was conferred on her 77th birthday at Special Ceremony by Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Group and Dr. Atul K Chauhan- Chancellor, Amity University for her exceptional work in the area of peace, politics, propagation of knowledge, professionalism; her strategic vision and inspirational leadership for propagation of democracy in Liberia.
Delivering her acceptance speech, Her Excellency Ellen Johnson Sirleaf thanked Amity for the honor bestowed upon her and expressed her delight in being inducted into the league of Honoris Causa recipients of Amity University. She averred that it’s a matter of great pride which she will share with her family members and with the women of Africa.
Talking about Indo –African relationship, she stressed that India and Africa share lot of common values and the relationship between India and Africa has been strengthened in last three decades especially in the area of Trade, International relationships and Education. She shared Africa’s recently endorsed vision to be different with bold economic agenda, to move towards self- dependency in order to become a competitive force in world arena. When asked whether Africa will support India’s bid for a permanent seat in United Nations Security Council, Her Excellency replied that it will take lot of negotiations and convincing and Africa is committed to its friendship with India. She stressed that the relationship that Africa shares with China is of trade and the one with India is of friendship which dates years back.
