Bhopal-based Barkatullah University will soon launch a three-month certificate course on social and moral values to develop cohesive families. Vice Chancellor of Barkatullah University, DC Gupta revealed that the varsity is planning to launch this course from the next academic session. The new course will help enable girls to help them adjust with another family after marriage. The major focus of the new course will be on developing cohesive families, he highlighted.
Adding further, DC Gupta indicated that Women’s Studies, Sociology, and Psychology departments of Barkatullah University would design the course on cohesive families. The new course will be open to both girls and boys. The course is also relevant to boys, as it inculcates social and moral values, which are necessary to develop cohesive families. The varsity is still working on modalities of the new course, and will come with a detailed syllabus and curriculum soon, he confirmed.
Initially, the varsity will enroll 30 students to this new course. If it receives positive results, the varsity will increase the student intake. However, HOD of Women’s Studies Department, Asha Shukla revealed that she did not receive any proposal from the VC regarding the new course. So far, the VC did not hold any discussion with regard to the new course, she added.
The VC’s announcement garnered a mixed response. Some of the senior politicians welcomed the move and expressed that there is no wrong if boys and girls are imparted training on cohesive families before marriage. No other university in India planned to offer such course so far. On the other hand, some of the experts slammed the varsity’s move and indicated that the varsity should focus on professional courses for women and jobs for the unemployed.
