Bhubaneshwar state government plans to push a new legislation forward in this monsoon session. The legislation will be for establishing a council for higher education that will assist the state government in maintaining the quality of education provided in the state.
The proposal for establishing an educational council was approved by Chief Minister of the state, Naveen Patnaik and decisions were made to keep it forward in the monsoon session.
A P Padhi, Chief Secretary, said that the motive behind establishing this council is to provide resolve, coordination, and assistance in maintaining the standards of higher education. It will also work to promote higher education and research, he added.

Other functions of the council will be devising the education system that will be followed by universities and colleges at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The state government will also heed the advice of the council on education related matters and decisions that need to be taken.
The council will comprise of 15 other members and will be led by the minister who will be in-charge of higher education.
