In a surprise announcement, Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh has abolished all caste based reservations in private medical & dental colleges in UP. With this landmark ruling, all quota category candidates for medical & dental including Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) & Other Backward Classes (OBC) will not be able to apply to any private medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh.
To ensure this, his government has even passed an order to do away with this long-standing rule. The decision to do away with the quota-based reservations in medical & dental colleges in UP was originally initiated by the erstwhile Chief Minister of Samajwadi Party, Shri Akhilesh Yadav. The newly formed BJP government is finally implementing it.
This can be viewed as one of the education initiatives by Yogi Adityanath’s government. The other education initiatives taken by the BJP government in UP include:
- Introduction of English language in schools from Class I , instead of Class VI
- Introduction of a compulsory foreign language in schools
- Introduction of Yoga & Self-Defence Classes in Schools
