- During the meeting, Education Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Mr. Manish Sisodia recommended that the state education boards and CBSE shall consider reducing the syllabus by 50%.
During the 65th Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) meeting that took place on January 15, 2018, the Education Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Mr. Manish Sisodia recommended that the state education boards and Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) shall consider reducing the syllabus by 50%.
According to Mr. Sisodia, it is difficult for teachers to attain learning outcomes due to an excessively vast syllabus. Reducing the burden will be a welcome change.

Adding further, Mr. Sisodia pointed that the education system in India has played a significant role in eradicating poverty, reducing poverty issue and improving employment. However, the education domain has never focused on eradicating problems like global warming and terrorism. Students currently only study the impacts or causes of global warming and are not provoked to suggest changes and find solutions to it.

Reduction of the syllabus is necessary in the current scenario as students are bound to classroom-based education. There isn’t enough scope for practical methods, physical education and extracurricular activities.
During the 65th CABE meeting, discussions on the status of higher education, digital initiatives in higher education, exclusive university for girls and others were also considered. Union HRD Minister, Mr. Prakash Javadekar chaired the CABE meeting. CABE also recommended free education to girls from primary to postgraduate level. In all, the meeting laid its emphasis on improving the standards and quality of education in India.
