Centre to Set Up Five Educational Institutions for Minorities

Mr. Mukhtar Abbas, Minister of State - Parliamentary Affairs revealed that the central government will establish five world-class institutions for minorities. The main objective of the centre is to provide better education in Unani, Ayurveda, Medical and Technical fields.

He explained that a high-level committee has been constituted to chalk out a framework for these minority institutions and the report will be submitted soon to the government. Mr. Abbas made this announcement while addressing a national seminar of Minority Community Teachers Association. The national seminar was held at India Islamic Culture Centre.

He further added that the government is working on a strategy to establish these institutes across the country and these institutions are expected to function from the 2018 academic session. Surprisingly, it is expected that 40% of seats in these institutes will be reserved for girls.

Mr. Abbas expressed his concern over the fact that shortage of teachers in higher education institutes is obstructing the development process and the central government has been doing its best to address the issue. He indicated that the state governments must also come forward to work upon the issue.

He expressed his happiness on the allocation of Minority Affairs Ministry in the Union Budget 2017 that has been increased to Rs. 4,195.48 crore. Around 70% of the budget allocation from the total grant will be used for educational empowerment of the minorities. He concluded that the ministry is satisfied with the allocations and assured that it would do its best to promote quality education for the minority communities.
