Hitesh Singh, a 22-year-old business aspirant has been selected for Post Graduate programme in Indian Institute of Management - IIM Ahmedabad. Not only Hitesh, but his 49-year-old father had always dreamt of this day. It was a dream-come-true moment for both of them.
Pankaj Sigh was a chauffeur for Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (GCMMF) where he drove the car of managing director R. S. Sodhi who also used to teach in IIM Ahmedabad. Pankaj had always had this thought that only the children who belong from eminent economic classes of the society can get int this institute. He used to look for hours at the red-bricked campus while waiting for his boss to come back from his classes and wonder that if his son could ever make it into such a prestigious institute.
The dream of Pankaj came true when he accompanied his son Hitesh to the personal interview (PI) session which is the last criteria to enter the eminent institute. Hitesh was selected in the PI session in IIM A which is among the top 50 business schools in India.
Hitesh took admission in the Post Graduate program in the specialisation of Food and Agro-business Management course in Indian Institute of Management - IIM Ahmedabad. Overjoyed by the success of the son, Pankaj said that he used to pray every day for his son to get admission in the institute when he took his boss to the campus. He exclaimed with joy that his dream has come true!
Pankaj migrated to Anand from a small village of Bihar before Hitesh was born. Pankaj was earning as low as 600 per month as a security guard. He later joined GCMMF in 2007 after learning driving.
Hitesh has only studied on scholarships from a Gujarati Medium School from where he passed 12th with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics without taking any tuition. Hitesh gave all the credit to his mother who taught him at home.
Hitesh, who lives in a 2BHK house in Anand with his family informed the media that he understood from a very young age that he has to study hard even after being under the financial hardships of his family. Even after studying in a Gujarati Medium even after not being from a Gujarati Background, Hitesh has said that language has never been a barrier for him.
In the B.Tech course of Anand Agriculture University, Hitesh topped in his degree of B.Tech in Dairy Technology from SMC College of Dairy Science. Hitesh was selected in IIM-A after getting an extraordinary score of 96.12% in CAT (Common Aptitude Test) which is the basic entrance examination for most top business schools in India. He took a loan of 23 lacs to study in IIM Ahmedabad. Other than his father, Hitesh says, GCMMF’s Mr. Sodhi is also a big inspiration behind his success.
According to Mr. Sodhi, it was a notable success of student for such a humble background to make into an Institute which is considered one of the tops in India. The example set by Hitesh on his own merits will work as inspiration for other such students across the country. Mt. Sodhi has also promised to provide all kind of career support and suggestions to Hitesh in the institute. He expressed that all his colleagues have already fallen in love with Hitesh.
As Mr.Sodhi, who is at the top positions in Amul, India’s biggest co-operative sector, is Hitesh’s inspiration, he wishes to pursue his career in Dairy Sector.
