The deadly coronavirus outbreak which has taken the entire world by storm has also impacted the education sector and particularly students a lot as schools, colleges and universities have been shut, various exams have been postponed or cancelled. To ensure the safety of the students and the teachers, the government had ordered all educational institutes in India to remain closed until March 31, 2020. Keeping that in consideration, Lovely Professional University (LPU) has begun virtual classes for the students which they can attend from the comfort of their home or the hostels. LPU is also conducting proper, needed temperature and other related check-ups for every person who enters the campus. All the schools, staff rooms and cabins at LPU are being sanitised.
The Chancellor of LPU, Ashok Mittal mentioned that to engage the students and to make up for the loss of study time during this period, they have resorted to online classes. LPU plans to continue teaching through online lectures, video calls and presentations during this time of lockdown. Many final year students are yet to join the companies where they got placed earlier and this break from studies due to the lockdown can impact them so for their benefit also, LPU has adopted this model of virtual classes. Virtual classes have also commenced in UP. Many B-schools also are likely to conduct their GD-PI virtually.
The university also has an app known as ‘LPU Live’ which helps in the engagement and communication between the teachers, students, parents and staff. This app has group messaging and private chat, audio and video calling and other such features. LPU has asked all the students to download the app to stay connected with the teachers. And the teachers will share the lecture notes and assignments via this app. Students will have to submit their assignments online.
