The DBT (Department of Biotechnology), GOI (The Government of India) is going to launch the ‘Khorana Programme for Scholars’. The department has invited applications for the programme. The programme is being introduced jointly by the Department of Biotechnology, IUSSTF (Indo - US Science and Technology Forum) and WINStep Forward.
The Khorana Programme for Scholars has been named after the Nobel Prize winner Dr Har Gobind Khorana. Dr Khorana was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1968 for his work in the interface of Biology and Chemistry while he was a member of the University of Wisconsin (UW) faculty.
Objectives of Khorana Programme
The Khorana Programme will be encouraging young scholars to undertake R&D.
The Khorana Programme will help students carry out research at Premier US Universities.
The programme will ensure that the research is transformed into societal benefits to building a scientific community that helps in seamless compliance between the US and India.

How to Apply for Khorana Programme by DBT?
Here are the steps that interested candidates need to take to complete the application for the Khorana Programme for Scholars.
Go to the official website of IUSSTF (Indo - US Science and Technology Forum).
Look for the ‘Khorana Programme For Scholars’ link on the home page of the website.
After clicking on the link, candidates will find all the important information about the Khorana Programme.
At the bottom of the programme description page, candidates will find a link to the online application for Khorana Programme.
Candidates can click on the link and begin their application.
Eligibility Criteria for Khorana Programme by DBT
Candidates must meet the eligibility for Khorana Programme. Only then they will be considered worthy of applying for the programme.
Candidates who are in the pre-final year of B.Tech, M.Tech, M.S., M.E., M.Sc., B.Sc., MBBS, M.Pharm, B.Pharm, Integrated B.S-M.S, M.V.Sc., B.V.Sc. or Master of Medical Science & Technology can apply for the Khorana Programme.
The disciplines that are considered eligible for the Khorana Programme are Biotechnology and allied areas like Biomedical Sciences, Computational Sciences, Agricultural Science, Health and Food Science, Big Data, Machine Learning, etc.
The degrees must be pursued at a recognised Indian institution of higher education.
Students who are completing their degrees on or after the month of May 2021 will be considered eligible to apply for the programme.
The first or final year students of PhD are not considered eligible for the Khorana Programme.
Applications in subjects of fields that are not mentioned above will not be considered.

The duration of the Khorana Programme for Scholars will be for 10 to 12 weeks. The programme will begin in Summer 2020. With the help of this programme, candidates will get the opportunity to carry out research at UW (University of Wisconsin - Madison) and other partner universities. Candidates must make sure that they apply for the Khorana Programme before the deadline, which is on 31st October this year.
