As stated by Union Minister Jitendra Singh, the Department of Science and Technology (DST) should take the initiative to set up the first National Science and Technology Research University of India. Read to find out more.

As stated by Union Minister Jitendra Singh, the Department of Science and Technology (DST) should take the initiative to set up the first National Science and Technology Research University of India by taking the advantage of research strength of the autonomous Institutions. While addressing the scientists and officers at the Technology Bhawan, the Union Minister said that in terms of the research publications, India is ranked 3rd in the Global Rankings. The minister also added that the country stands in the ninth position for quality of research publications as per the world’s reputed and recognized scientific journals.

As per the union minister, even though the Global Ranking of the Country in terms of quality of research papers has improved from 14 to 9, consistent efforts should be made to bring India in the top 5 by the time we celebrate our 75 years of Independence. As per Jitendra Singh, the Department of Science and Technology should set up India’s first National Science and Technology Research University using up the research strength of its different autonomous research and development institutions working in the field of science and technology.

The union minister also pointed the focus on the Prime Minister’s emphasis on Science and Technology. He said that with the PM’s intervention in the year 2016, the patent law was made less regulatory and more incentive-oriented, leading to reducting in time taken to improving patents and a more seamless process. He also added that over the last 7 years, the number of resident patents filled has increased, including the female research scientists, and several Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) researchers.
