Delhi University (DU) has decided to provide a 'centenary' chance to ex-students to finish their degree. This idea was discussed in a meeting held in the end of January 2022 regarding centenary celebrations at DU.
Delhi University (DU) has decided to provide a 'centenary' chance to students who were unable to complete their degree to return to the varsity, take their exams and complete their qualifications. A proposal regarding this was presented and approved at a special Executive Council meeting held on January 28, 2022. The objective of the meeting was to talk about the centenary celebrations of Delhi University. In order to mark the centenary year of DU, the celebrations will start from May 01, 2022 onwards. The year-long plans organised by the varsity will continue until May 01, 2023.
The Vice-Chancellor of DU, Yogesh Singh confirmed the news and said that the proposal has been approved by the Executive Council and DU will be calling it as a ‘Centenary’ chance. He further added that students who were not able to finish their degree due to any reason can come and appear for their exams. This will provide them with an opportunity to earn their degree from the varsity.

Explaining in-depth, Professor Singh said two chances will be provided to such students between May 01, 2022 and March 03, 2022. The first 'centenary' chance to take the exam will be given somewhere around September & October while the second chance will be given around March. The Vice-Chancellor added that a separate registration process for the exam will be held for aspirants who could not write two to three papers. Professor Singh said that the Dean of Examinations, Professor D S Rawat has been provided with the task of working out the modalities of the initiative.
The Executive Council member Rajpal Singh Panwar also authenticated the report by saying that the aspect of 'centenary' chance was discussed in the last week of January in the special meeting. This chance is not for those aspirants who had dropped in their 1st year of the course and now wish to complete their remaining 2 years through this. He cleared that only students who could not sit for a couple of papers will be allowed to take the exam.

The centenary year celebrations at Delhi University is expected to be a grand affair as the university has allocated a sum of Rs. 10 Crore for the same. In order to mark the occasion, there are also plans to bring out a coffee table book.
