The announcement of JEE Main 2017 result has started festivities in Bihar’s Patwatoli locality after 50 of its students qualified the exam. The locality is inhabited by weavers who are not able to make much of a living. In such tough conditions, so many of the students qualifying JEE Main exam is one of the optimistic developments for the community.
Achieving this level of success has not satiated the spirits of the engineering aspirants in the town and they said that they will work even harder to get better results from the years to come.
Patwatoli is situated across the Falgu river and the town rose to fame in 1998 when 15 of its residents qualified to the JEE entrance exam and made it to the IITs. Since then, Patwaloti has been endeavouring to fight the tough conditions and scarcity of basic amenities.
The town has become a breeding ground for IITians and number of candidates who qualify JEE from Patwatoli each year have been increasing. In 2016, a total of 40 students had cleared the JEE Main exam and the number has increased this year.
Talking about the success of Patwatoli, Social Activist, Gopal Patwa said that many of the residents who became successful engineers and those who cleared the exam every year have been the motivation for a generation of JEE aspirants. These individuals have also been providing free guidance to aspirants in order to clear the exam and get good ranks, added Gopal.

Gopal Patwa helps in conducting community studies in the colony for JEE aspirants. He said that the initiative is one of the biggest reason behind the success of the community.
A socio-educational platform by the name of ‘Nav Prayas’ has also been started by the successfully employed engineers and IITians who belong to the community. The platform has been started to groom local students and help them crack JEE Main for admission to prestigious engineering colleges.
These mentors abide by the motto ‘Each one, teach one’. Weekly and monthly tests are organised by Nav Prayas to prepare the aspirants for the final exam.

Apart from engineering, students of the community have also been performing well in the medical entrance exams. Girls from Patwaltoli have achieved a commendable level of success in the competitive medical exams. The success of students will, in turn, inspire the next generations to perform well in the exam and help in uplifting the community.
