This year, a total of 16 lakh students from the state of Maharashtra have given the SSC exam. The Mumbai division itself had 3.51 lakh students who appeared for the exam.

The state education department has been carrying out ‘Kal Chachani’ (aptitude test) aided by Shyamchi Aai Foundation for three years now. This test is conducted to help students in picking the career that is best suited for them after qualifying their board exams. They were conducted in an online mode in schools until now but from this academic year, the schools will have to use a smartphone with the test application installed in it. The test is 90 minutes long and this year it tested the students on different aptitude scales, not just on their interest in a specific subject as was done earlier.

The department has released the results earlier this year so that the students may get enough time for exploring a career option for themselves. Sheetal Bapat, the founder and director of the Shyamchi Aai Foundation said that it is better to declare the report earlier as students think about career options during the summer vacations. The early declaration was easier as they had used the mobile application this year.

A career counsellor, Nirali Shah, said that a lot of students are attracted towards the field of fine arts because it has many career options opening up. There are various opportunities for artists today. Commerce continues to hold its popular position owing to its professional courses like BBA,BAF etc.
