Gauhati University is going to conduct a special entrance exam to fill up vacant seats in the postgraduate courses. There are approximately 400 vacant seats in the affiliated colleges of Gauhati University.

As a consequence of observing a number of vacant seats in the Postgraduate courses at the Gauhati University, the officials decided to conduct a special entrance test to fill the empty spaces. The final call of admission at Guwahati University was made last month, however, the admission staff was in shock to see the number of vacant seats for PG courses for the current academic year. Executive Council of GU had a meeting earlier this month, to address the issue of vacant seats. The meeting was followed by a detailed discussion with the admissions council on the 6th of September and the final conclusion to have a special entrance exam was taken by all.

The sources gave insights of the number of vacant seats at different colleges under GU, there are approx to 400 seats vacant at GU in the subjects - Assamese, Arabic, Sociology, Biophysics, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Commerce, Education, Herbal Science & Technology, Tourism, and Bodo.

GU Special PG Entrance Exam Eligibility Criteria 2019

The University officials have set a condition for the special entrance exam i.e candidates who did not appear for the CET conducted by GU between June 29 to July 3 will be allowed to apply for the special entrance exam. As per the official notification, applicants can apply for the same from 9th of September to 12th of September. Admit Cards will be available from September 13th and the examination will be held in three slots.

Gauhati University changed the admission process for PG courses, earlier this year by making the common entrance exam compulsory for all applicants. However, the idea of having a CET to select candidates was suggested the previous year but incorporation of affiliated colleges took some time. For now, the admission pattern is going to remain the same for PG 2020 Admissions as well.
