The government of Punjab has confirmed that it would implement online attendance system in all the government colleges across the state from the upcoming academic session. With a motive to streamline higher education in Punjab, the state government will also implement an audit of the colleges. Punjab Minister of Higher Education, Razia Sultana took these decisions in a meeting with principals of government colleges.
From the next academic session, government colleges in Punjab will conduct online admission process. At the same time, government colleges will have to submit a monthly report on its academic and associated activities. Principals of these colleges will have no authority to relax the attendance of any student. The state government will issue appropriate directions in this regard within a month.

During the meeting, the discussion also took place on various issues on quality/ standard of higher education in Punjab. Apart from the online attendance system and audit system, Razia Sultana also called for the implementation of the following in government colleges: -
- Faculty development programme
- Status of NAAC accreditation
- Online admission system
- Subject combination in UG courses
- Status of libraries
- Motivational series by renowned personalities
- Best practices in colleges

Apart from the above, teachers in the government colleges will have to undergo a mandatory refresher/ orientation course every year to enhance their teaching methodologies and knowledge.
