Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur and Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar on 21st February (Thursday) together laid the foundation stone of the Central University of Himachal Pradesh in Kangra district, Dehra. Mr. Javadekar said that the university will open a new scope of development in the area and will also provide high-quality education to the students. He also stated that the central government will provide any possible help so that the university in Himachal Pradesh is completed within the stipulated time of 3 years. He further highlighted the fact that the Central University will have one campus in Dharamshala and the other one in Dehra. Roundabout Rs. 1,300 crores will be spent on construction of both the campuses.
The first campus is supposed to be established in Jadrangal which is situated near Dharamshala in a 7.5 square km area. The second campus is said to be established in 287 hectares of area at Dehra.

Prakash Javedkar stated that the Center has sanctioned many universities in Himachal Pradesh for the betterment of the state which includes IIT for Mandi, Central Schools, IIIT for Una etc. He added that the union government is also committed to install digital boards in more than nine lakh schools across the country. Union HRD Minister also stated that 7,044 crores were spent on education this financial year and a provision of 7,600 crores is made for the next financial year.
