With an objective to curtail the menace of ragging, HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar launched an Anti-Ragging mobile application introduced by UGC or University Grants Commission. The app will enable the students to register the complaints against ragging. The app is compatible with Android OS, and students can download it from Google Play Store. The specialty of the app is that it forwards the complaints registered by students to the concerned authorities immediately. The authorities will respond and take immediate action on those who involved in ragging.

On this occasion, Prakash Javadekar elaborated that any kind of physical and mental torture of new student is termed as ragging. Any act of ragging is intolerable, and severe action will be taken against the students who involve in ragging. He expressed his concern that despite stringent laws to regulate ragging on campuses, the incidences of ragging continue to be prevalent throughout the country. He further added that UGC has been receiving around 400 complaints every year.

He advised all the higher learning institutes to enforce anti-ragging rules properly on the campus. Javadekar mentioned that students could use the app now for registering complaints besides logging on to the official website of UGC.
