According to sources, the ministry will discuss issues related to increasing the number of SC, ST and OBC faculty. Some of the officials of the department mentioned that IIMs might find it difficult to dodge the issue as the minister will take it up in the meeting. All the IIMs will submit their reports on faculty positions. Most of the IIMs do not follow reservation policy.

It is the first meeting where all the stakeholders will meet face to face. The issue related to scholarship and loans which are given to SC/ST students will also be discussed.

Reservation in faculty positions has been a controversial issue for IIMs. In 2008, then HRD Minister Arjun Singh directed all the centrally funded institutions including IITs and IIMs to implement reservation in teaching positions. However, the decision taken by the minister led to massive protests and Arjun Singh had exempted 47 higher education institutions including IITs and IIMs from the reservation policy.
