The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Vishakhapatnam has received approval to develop infrastructure for digital education. The approval has been granted under the smart classroom initiative of the Education Ministry of India. A budget of Rs. 70 crore has been allocated for the project.
This new infrastructure will be developed and installed on the permanent campus being constructed of IIMV. As per reports, this was initially not part of the plans for the IIMV campus but was later proposed to the ministry as the institute sensed an increase in demand for online education. IIMV also has plans to start offering an online MBA course in the future, which will also be greatly advantaged from the new infrastructure being installed.

The Ministry of Education (MoE) has emphasised on the need of all classrooms being converted to smart classrooms. An Operation Digital Board (ODB)-committee has been set up, which has provided the specifications for the development of these smart classrooms.
Prof Chandrasekhar, the Director if IIMV, provided more details about the ministry's emphasis on developing online education in India. The director mentioned that IIMB is determined to make use of these learnings for their internal resource generation.

IIMV's new permanent campus is still in the first stage of its development. The completed campus will spread across more than 60,000 square meters. The campus area has been further expanded by 2000 square meters to accommodate the new infrastructure being developed. A total of Rs. 445 crores have been allocated for Phase-A construction.
