IIT Delhi to Get New Research Facility Centre Sponsored by Alumnus

IIT Delhi is all set to start the construction of its Central Research Facilities Building. As per an MoU signed between the institute and an alumnus Patanjali G. Keswani, the latter will contribute Rs. 20 crores for this purpose.

IIT Delhi to Get New Research Facility Centre Sponsored by Alumnus

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) will have the total construction cost of its Central Research Facilities Building sponsored by the Chairman and Managing Director of Lemon Tree Hotels Mr. Patanjali G. Keswani, who is also a distinguished alumnus of IIT Delhi. Mr. Keswani is an alumnus of the batch of 1981 and has pledged to bear the construction cost which is estimated to be Rs. 20 crores.

The Central Research Facilities Building will be called ‘Golden Jubilee Gope and Lila Keswani Research Centre’ after the names of the parents of Mr. Patanjali Keswani. It will be a centre made exclusively for education and research and will be housing sophisticated analytical instruments and other tools in one building.

An MoU was signed between IIT Delhi and Mr. Keswani in the year 2010 under which the latter had to invest Rs. 25 lakhs to his alma mater. After some deliberation, another MoU was signed in 2012 after which the foundation stone was also laid. Mr. Keswani has now willingly proposed to bear Rs. 20 crores of the total cost of construction of the centre.

Mr. Patanjali Keswani spoke about this initiative and said that all alumni of IIT Delhi realise how important has the institute been for them and how vital was that time for their personal and professional development. Every student owes their success to their alma mater and giving something back to it is just a way to say thank you which should be done by everyone.

He further said that the Golden Jubilee Gope and Lila Keswani Research Centre is his tribute to IIT Delhi and to his parents as an acknowledgment of their contribution to his life. The building will be ready in 18 months’ time from the when its construction starts. It will have 6 storeys and the authorities aim at providing all the required facilities that are related to research to the students and faculty of IIT Delhi with the help of the Centre.
