COVID-19/ Coronavirus is taking a toll on India, and the number of cases has been increasing drastically. With no option left, the Indian government announced completed lockdown until April 14, 2020. Lack of medicine is the only reason for such forcible instances, and IIT Guwahati announced that its researchers are trying to develop a vaccine for Covid-19. Along with the vaccine for the pandemic, IIT Guwahati is also developing rapid detection and portable diagnostic kits for various microorganisms and viruses.
In order to find the solution for this pandemic, researchers at IIT Guwahati are exploring possibilities to clone the immunogenic proteins of Coronavirus, which will be used as diagnostics and possible vaccination for the affected people.
IIT Guwahati has already developed hand-sanitizer to minimize the shortage. Earlier, IIT Guwahati researchers have developed vaccines (recombinant) against classical swine fever and Japanese encephalitis. The research work was also published in a journal named ‘Vaccine and Archives of Virology’.
IIT Guwahati has a dedicated Viral Immunology Laboratory, which has been actively involved in developing vaccines. On the hand, the lab developed a viral vector system to combat foreign antigens.

All the premier institutes across the country are trying to find different remedies to fight Coronavirus. Let us hope that IIT Guwahati succeeds in developing a vaccine for this pandemic.
