IIT-G graduates opting for the PG Diploma programme will be given direct admission into the second year of various M.Tech programmes offered at the institute.
A one-year postgraduate diploma programme has been launched by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar for those students who would have graduated this year from the institute. The PGD programme will provide a much-needed escape medium for those who were planning their job or education future which has been stalled due to the spread of coronavirus across various parts of the country.
Those who enrol themselves for this 1-year PGD programme, they will be given direct entry into the second year of various M.Tech programmes offered at IIT Gandhinagar. In the following streams, IIT-G is offering this PGD programme -
Material Science and Engineering
Mechanical Engineering
Electrical Engineering
Earth System Science
Computer Science and Engineering
Civil Engineering
Chemical Engineering
Biological Engineering

According to the director of IIT-G Sudhir K Jain, the PGD programme has been launched keeping in mind the future plans of the brightest minds of the Institute who have to cancel their higher education or employment plans due to this unprecedented disease. He added that the diploma programme will have intensive course work but no thesis or research. It is being said that the institute wants to continue this programme even after everything returns back to normal.
Other than the PGD programme, IIT Gandhinagar is also offering two Fellowship programmes. “Sabarmati Bridge Fellowship” and IIT Gandhinagar Junior Fellowship in Leadership” will help the students pursue their passions by helping them take up exciting research opportunities and unconventional profession. For the academic year 2020-21, IIT-G is offering 10 Junior Fellowships on Leadership.
