IIT Guwahati Smart Engineer Launch

With the entire world, turning towards the promotion of the eco-friendly mode of transportation, i.e. Electric Vehicles, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has announced the launch of an AI-assisted engineering system design tool, “Smart Engineer”. IIT Guwahati had released the Artificial Intelligence assisted design tool, Smart Engineer, on Saturday 5th October 2019.

In a statement provided by Prof Praveen Kumar from the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering at the institute, they plan to update the design tool soon. As per the statement, the current version is focused on addressing the fundamentals of designing the induction motors. He stated that the results so far have been promising and there are plans to broaden the potential of the Smart Engineer by including the finer aspects of motor design.

The professor stated that the team has been compiling the intricacies of motor design that have been gathered at the e-mobility lab over the years. He also added that they will be using the AI and cloud potentials of IBM, thus ensuring the development of Smart Engineer.

A team of Master’s and PhD students from the Indian Institute of Technology is responsible for developing Smart Engineer. The team consists of Ankit Vishway, Bikash Sah and Rajendra Kumar. The professor’s statement also announced that IBM Cloud and the IBM Watson AI Platform will be used to enhance the capabilities of the design tool.
