Techniche is the annual event organised by the student fraternity of IIT Guwahati. The event holds a half marathon in various categories to raise awareness about various issues, the water scarcity issue is the topic of 2019
The annual techno-management festival of Indian Institute of Technology - IIT Guwahati, known as Techniche, is hosting the 2019 version of Guwahati Half Marathon on 25th August to raise awareness on global issues like the scarcity of clean water.
The half marathon is to be held in the city of Guwahati. The annual half marathon is the largest half marathon of North East which gets organised annually by the students of the premier institute. IIT Guwahati's Student fraternity initiatives on public awareness are behind the marathon that gets organised every year. With the aim to raise awareness on the clean and drinkable water, the marathon is being organised in its 11th edition in 2019.
Suraj Shelke, who is the convener of Technische 2019, said that the world including India is suffering from water problems on a massive scale. In some parts of the country, accessible water is being contaminated with harmful substances like arsenic which results in skin and internal diseases in a person. To contribute to the cause of clean water sources, Piramal Sarvajal Organisation has decided to join hands with Techniche to conduct the half marathon.
Shelke added that the students have planned to utilise the half-marathon participation fees to set up Water ATMs across the city. The organisers of the event have said that the aspiring participants can register in the half marathon in either online or offline mode.
List of IIT Guwahati Techniche 2019 Events
Spirit Run: With no age bar, the spirit run is a 6 kilometres run which is open for all. The event will have separate categories where anyone can take part in. There will be separate prize money for men and women and the registration cost of the spirit run is free.
Glory Run: Glory run is a run comprising 21 Kilometers of distance. Anyone above the age of 14 can participate in the event. The race will have a separate category and prizes for Men and Women where people have to pay a sum of 400 rupees to take part.
Courage Run: Courage run is a running event focused towards the specially-abled people
General Championship: The General Championship is an Inter-School and Inter-college championship event where students on behalf of their schools and colleges will contest with students of other schools or colleges for the General Championship Trophy. General Championship will fall under the Spirit run Category with a distance of 6km to cover. The total number of participants and the number of top 50 participants will determine the points table in the event.

The theme of the previous year’s Half Marathon 2018 was to raise awareness regarding Digital India where 2017 Guwahati Half Marathon was on the theme of Organ Donation.
