IT Hyderabad introduces International Certificate Programme in Product-Service Systems DesignIIT Hyderabad has launched the International Certificate Program in Product–Service Systems Design , reinforcing its commitment to expanding global design education and strengthening industry-focused innovation. Developed by the Department of Design in collaboration with POLI.design, Milan, the program is supported in India by the Indo-Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IICCI). According to the institute, this initiative aligns with a broader mission to integrate international learning models into its curriculum and expose Indian students and professionals to advanced design frameworks. With guidance from IICCI’s Project Minerva, the partnership aims to deepen academic and industry exchanges between India and Italy while bringing high-quality design expertise to a wider audience.
The program, officially called the Integrated Product–Service System (IPSS) Design Certificate, is a 54-hour online course scheduled to begin on January 15, 2026 . It includes 30 hours of live instruction and 24 hours of hands-on workshop modules delivered jointly by faculty from IIT Hyderabad and POLI.design. This dual-instructor approach allows participants to learn directly from experts across both countries, encouraging cross-cultural academic engagement. The structure combines theoretical concepts with applied learning, helping learners understand the complexities of integrating product design with service delivery. By alternating sessions between Italian and Indian faculty, the curriculum ensures exposure to global design philosophies and modern practices.
The course is designed to develop core skills in system-level thinking, sustainability-driven design approaches, and strategic innovation. Participants will work on collaborative projects addressing real business and design challenges, helping them develop practical problem-solving skills applicable across industries. IIT Hyderabad’s Director, Prof. BS Murty, noted that the partnership with POLI.design and IICCI would support creating skilled human resources capable of contributing meaningfully to India’s growing product and service design sectors. Faculty from POLI.design echoed this, emphasizing their dedication to aiding India’s upskilling and reskilling efforts by sharing their extensive expertise in strategic design.
IICCI’s role in facilitating the partnership through its Minerva Eduhub initiative underscores a broader effort to strengthen Indo-Italian educational and business linkages. POLI.design, part of the Politecnico di Milano Design System, ranked among the top global institutions for arts and design, adds significant international value to the program. Through this tripartite collaboration, the course aims to support professionals across sectors that rely on integrated product and service solutions, while fostering global exchange in design, innovation, and industry-oriented education.
