IIT Hyderabad launched first-of-its-kind ‘Fabless Chip Design Incubator’. The centre will play a magnificent role in incubating world-class semiconductor start-ups.
On August 17, 2018, IIT Hyderabad has launched India’s first incubator in chip design centre. The centre has been named as ‘Fabless Chip Design Incubator’. The chip design centre was set up with the support of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. The centre will play a magnificent role in incubating world-class semiconductor start-ups. The chip design centre will accelerate Indian landscape in semiconductor design.
Through the chip design incubator, IIT Hyderabad will rollout Fabless Chip Design Incubator Programme in collaboration with CadenceO Design Systems. The key objective of the programme is to provide a one-stop solution for start-ups in the area of chip design. The incubator programme is a unique platform for the emerging start-ups in the relevant field to bring a wave in chip design. Start-ups can utilise the infrastructure, software and hardware at IIT Hyderabad. These start-ups will also get mentorship from experienced faculty and researchers at the premier institute.

Director of IIT Hyderabad, Professor UB Desai hoped that the incubator programme in chip design would make a significant contribution to the expansion of chip design in India. Through this programme, IIT Hyderabad would play an overridden role in making India a global hub in the field of chip design. Fabless Chip Design Incubator is the prime initiative of its kind in India that will play a premier role in creating an eco-system for start-ups in the semiconductor sector, he added.

Cadence will also provide the necessary tools and inputs for incubating start-ups in the field of chip design.
