Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Kharagpur) is taking several initiatives to become the country’s first smart college campus. The IIT KGP college campus will let students operate equipment inside their hostel rooms by using a smartphone app.
A smart switch module has been installed in over 100 hostel rooms of the campus. This will automatically turn the fan and light off once the student leaves the room.
Apart from this, the mobile app allows the student to switch off the electrical equipment in their room as it is connected to the smart switchboard through WiFi. IITKGP is the first smart college campus of the country and the new system will save up to 20% of the monthly electrical expenditure.
