West Bengal colleges are allowed to extend the admission deadline for filling the vacant seats in different courses. The numerous vacant seats in colleges have been forcing the state government to extend the deadline further.
Education Minister of West Bengal, Mr. Partha Chatterjee revealed that the colleges in the state could extend the admission deadline to fill the vacant seats. Hundreds of seats are lying vacant in colleges across the state. The admissions in colleges were to close on August 20, 2018. Extension of admission deadline is voluntary and it is not binding on colleges, he added.
Explaining further, Mr. Partha Chatterjee indicated that if a college has the required infrastructure and seeks an extension for the admission deadline to fill vacant seats, they could continue with the admission process.
The admission deadline was already extended from July 17 to August 20, 2018. The numerous vacant seats in colleges have been forcing the state government to extend the deadline further.

The colleges affiliated to different universities in the state must adhere to the admission guidelines prescribed.
Recently, the Cabinet of West Bengal approved the proposal for setting up four new universities. All the four universities will come under the ambit of state government. On the other hand, CM of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee will lay the foundation stone for Mahatma Gandhi University on October 02, 2018. The proposal to set up Mahatma Gandhi University in East Midnapore was approved a few months back.

With the establishment of new universities, the total number of universities in West Bengal will go up to 28. Students have numerous options to pursue higher studies in the state rather than migrating to other states or abroad.
