Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, also known as IIT-KGP has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with two of the top-ranked US universities namely University of Houston and University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. The MoU was signed on Friday, 14th September 2018, in the esteemed presence of Chancellor Renu Khator and the Director of IIT Kharagpur Mr. P.P. Chakrabarti, with a motive and aim to maintain research collaborations between the participating institutes.
The MoU which has been signed with the US-based varsities will focus on aspects such as:
- Petroleum engineering
- Chemical engineering
- Deep-sea technology
- Advanced materials
- Analytics
- Industrial engineering
As a part of the MoU, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth apart from collaborating for research purposes, it will also promote and participate in faculty and post-doctorate fellow exchange programmes along with academic and student research information.
While discussing the details of the MoU, Director of IIT Kharagpur, Prof. P P Chakrabarti also said that the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth is planning to initiate discussions to formulate a unique joint international programme in the field of Marine Science and Technology as well. A team of delegates from IIT Kharagpur is currently in the USA to take this further, he added.

With this MoU, all the three institutes/universities will be largely benefitted especially in the field of research. The partnership will encourage a growth environment and will facilitate more faculty and student interaction further adding to a global exposure.
