With an aim to facilitate industry-academia talks of research, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras has announced a new initiative in collaboration with four companies. The initiative has been named as ‘Research Connect’.
For this purpose, IIT Madras has collaborated with the following four companies:
- Huawei, a Chinese multinational telecommunications, and networking company
- ABB, a Swedish high-tech engineering corporation
- Hitachi, a Japanese company
- Intel Corporation, a renowned chip manufacturer

Research Connect programme will link industrial research and development experts and research scholars as well as faculty members of Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. The collaboration will augment the current research initiatives of the institute. Some of the research initiatives that will be worked on include ICSR or Incubation Cell, Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research, Research Park etc.

The collaboration will bring all the research scholars together and enable them to hold a result-oriented discussion on the process of research done by labs at various institutes. The discussions will also focus on delivering solutions that cater to industrial needs.
The government is also emphasizing on all the premier technical institutes and asking them to focus more on research. Institutes like IITs and IIITs have been trying to come up with new initiatives to strengthen research. These institutes have been making collaborations with various organisations and foreign varsities.
Among the premier institutes, IIT Madras is well known for its research initiatives. The institute has around 100 laboratories for research and teaching. Currently, there are 9,000 students pursuing various courses at IIT Madras with a 550-strong faculty community.
