IIT Madras to Help Automotive Sector Adopt AI

IIT Madras' RBC DSAI one of the premier AI research groups in India is all set to help manufacturing and automotive sector adopt Artificial Intelligence (AI). IIT Madras organised a conclave on Manufacturing and Automotive Applications on 29th August 2019.

The Robert Bosch Centre for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (RBC DSAI) of Indian Institute of Technology - IIT Madras is one of the most advanced Artificial Intelligence Research Centres of India. In a conclave organised recently, the IIT Madras Centre has offered help Automotive and Manufacturing sectors to adopt Artificial Intelligence.

The proposal came during the 2nd RBCDSAI AI/ML Conclave which was on the topic of ‘Manufacturing of Automotive Applications’ hosted by IIT Madras on Thursday, 29th August 2019. The conclave was jointly organised by Latent View Analytics.

Artificial Intelligence has taken over the world. Adopting AI will be helpful for manufacturing and automotive industry in productions, sales and maintenance work.

Speaking about the motive of the conclave, Prof Raghunathan Rangaswami, Chemical Engineering Department, IIT Madras informed that the conclave was mainly around AI in manufacturing. The main purpose of the event is to inform manufacturing and automotive sector about what AI can bring to the table and is useful for the respective sector.

In product development, manufacturing and automotive services, the integration of AI can enable a lot of new business practices. TIt is discussed that a strong skill foundation will be built only with the collaboration of Industry and Academia.

Prof. B. Ravindran or Department of CSE and the Head of RBC DSAI, IIT Madras addressed the audience and talked about the AI technologies that can be used to ensure better reliability in manufacturing. It is necessary for the business entities to know what AI is capable of and its limitations.

Professor Ravindran also added that it will be essential in future for the industries to adopt AI and AI-Based technologies in manufacturing. RBC DSAI conducts small conclaves every month to reach out to the industries with the aim to increase awareness about AI technologies and its possible fields for utilisation.

More than 250 people attended the IIT Madras conclave and sources suggest that about 80% of them were from the industrial sectors and the rest were students.

The founder and chairman of LatenView Analytics, Mr Venkat Viswanathan said that since 1950, many new technologies have come to existence on the basis of manufacturing. The manufacturing sector has given the world many new inventions. It is only now that the opportunity has come to store the data generated by the manufacturing sector.

The centre of RBC DSAI was founded in the year 2017 with professors from different departments who were keen to conduct research on Data Analytics and AI. It is now considered as a key player of emerging AI Industry in India. It also aims to provide assistance to various industries regarding AI and its applications.
