The HRD ministry i.e. Human Resources Development Ministry has announced that for this year the Indian Institute of Technology of Madras has bagged the first place for patents. IIT, Madras has till now applied for 248 patents and 13 of them have already been approved. This number is the highest among the IITs in India and also indicates that the research level in this institute is very high.

The second place has been seized by IIT of Bombay and this institute has filed applications for 205 patents out of which 10 patents have been awarded.
And the third place is captured by IIT, Delhi which applied for 100 patents. Apart from patents another main factor that is considered for global recognition is research publications and this year IIT Kharagpur has published 4,719 publications. IIT Bombay has 4,488 publications under its umbrella and IIT Delhi has 4,344 publications. IIT Roorkee who this year stole the thunder of striking dozen of students off for low grades has 3,766 publications and 1,896 out of them have been published in international journals.

All in all this year, 16 IITs across the country filed applications for 453 patents and 25,164 research publications have been credited under IITs.
