IIT Madras, which has maintained the top spot in the NIRF rankings for five consecutive years, aims to promote inclusive education through its financial aid programmes. For the 2025 academic session, the institute is offering two major scholarships for students whose family income does not exceed ₹4.5 lakh per year:

  • Institute Merit-Cum-Means Scholarship

  • Institute Free Studentship Scheme

Both schemes will cover 65% of the tuition fees for 25% of admitted students. To continue receiving the benefit, students must maintain a minimum GPA of 5.0 each semester. If the GPA falls below this level, the scholarship will be discontinued.

In addition, 7% of students from the same income group will receive the Institute Notional Prize, a one-time award. Students belonging to the SC/ST categories with family income up to ₹4.5 lakh will receive free tuition, free messing, and a monthly pocket allowance of ₹50, renewable every semester based on academic performance.
