IIT Placements 2017 International Offers

  • IIT Madras, IIT Bombay and IIT Guwahati have witnessed a growth in the number of international offers.
  • IIT Bombay topped the list with an average salary of Rs. 40 lakh per annum in the first phase of placements.
IIT Placements 2017 International Offers

This year, the placements at Indian Institutes of Technology witnessed a significant rise in the number of international offers. Compared to the previous placement season, IIT Bombay has seen 13% growth in the number of offshore jobs. At IIT Madras, a total number of 23 students bagged international offers during the first phase of placements, while 74 students of IIT Bombay bagged offshore jobs in countries like Taiwan, Singapore, Korea, Japan, Nigeria, UK and USA.

Apart from IIT Madras and IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati has also witnessed a growth in the number of international offers. In terms of average gross salary offered to students by international companies, IIT Bombay topped the list with an average salary of Rs. 40 lakh per annum. The average salary offered for the domestic offers stood at Rs. 11.50 lakh. Even though there has been a rise in the number of international offers, the average salary offered remained almost same to that of last year.

Core engineering sector dominated the IIT placements this year. Many start-ups have thronged to the campuses of IIT to hire students. For instance, a total number of 32 start-ups made 85 offers at IIT Madras, while 37 start-ups recruited students at IIT Roorkee.

Major Highlights of IIT Placements (First Phase) 2017: -

  • In terms of overall placement percentage, the actual placement percentage at IITs has been increased from 56% (2016) to 62% (2017).
  • The first phase placements at all IITs have ended registering a significant rise in the number of offers.
  • Including Pre Placement Offers (PPOs), a total number of 1,143 offers were rolled out at IIT Bombay.
  • So far, 1,011 students have accepted the job offers, and at least six out of 10 students bagged a job.
  • Similarly, the placement percentage at IIT Guwahati stood at 60% after the end of first phase placements.
  • Out of 816 registered students, 523 students secured a job.
  • As far as IIT Roorkee is concerned, 843 offers were made during the first phase placements.
  • PSUs also made an impact at IITs by visiting the campuses even before the beginning of placement season.
  • At IIT Bombay, three PSUs made 21 offers this year.

More PSUs are expected to take part in the second phase placements, which will begin in January 2018.
