Jadavpur University to Follow 70:30 Format to Promote Final-Year B.Tech Students

Jadavpur University has come up with a new policy to promote final-year B.Tech students. Check the new evaluation policy framed by Jadvaupur University through which almost 1200 final-year B.Tech students will be promoted. 

Jadavpur University Final Semester Evaluation

According to the latest UGC rules, the final semester exams for all courses must be conducted by September-end. However, Jadavpur University has decided to follow a new evaluation policy for B.Tech final semester exams. Jadavpur University has adapted 70:30 format for evaluation of final semester for Engineering. The results for all the streams will be released by July 31, 2020.

What is 70:30 Evaluation Format?

Jadavpur University will be passing the students in the final semester of their Engineering course on the basis of previous year’s marks and internal assessment. As per the 70:30 evaluation format, 70% weightage will be provided to the previous year’s best marks and the remaining 30% weightage will be given to the internal assessments.

The advisory has been made by West Bengal Government which recommended the Universities to go with 80:20 evaluation format. However, the government has left the final decision with the concerned universities.

Evaluation Format for Other Courses

For other courses such as Arts & Science, the evaluation will be done in the 80:20 format. As per the format, 80% weightage will be given to previous year’s best score and the remaining 20% weightage will be given to the internal assessments.

What Officials Have to Say

As per the officials of Jadavpur University, the evaluation for final year Engineering students will be done in 70:30 format. We have come to this decision after discussing with the faculty members and concerned heads of the department. He further stated that for Arts and Science stream, the same evaluation will be done in 80:20 format. The details of the evaluation have been shared with the faculties and the results will be out by July 31.

There are a total of 1200 Engineering students, 900 Arts students and 550 Science students at Jadavpur University.
