JIMS organised the ‘Mock Stock Competition’ and a guest lecture discussing ‘Exploring Opportunities for Financing a Start-up’ on February 18, 2017. Students from the finance background and PGDM programmes participated in the events.

The guest lecture was conducted by JIMS E-cell and was delivered by Mr. Ashwani Gupta, formerly associated with SBI – the largest public sector bank of Indian. He enlightened the students with his knowledge in the financing field.

He discussed various aspects of the financing world from the government schemes to banking procedures for start-up loans. Mr. Gupta also addressed the queries of students and helped them find solutions for their problems.

Students also participated actively in the ‘Mock Stock Competition’ that was aimed to test the critical thinking, financial awareness and analytical ability of the students. the event also highlighted the creativity of the students and their knowledge of portfolio management.

12 teams – each comprising 3 members – participated in the competition. Their task was to maximize their net worth by investing in the virtual stocks. The teams were given virtual money up to Rs.10,00,000 that they were supposed to invest in six stocks while the portfolio was supposed to have minimum two stocks.

To make the event more interesting, both national and international-level rumours and news were flashed on the screen and students were supposed to invest in stocks by identifying the fluctuation in prices based on these news and rumours.

Certificates, as well as prize money, was awarded to the winning team (Rs.2000), first runners-up (Rs.1000) and second runners up (Rs.500). the winning team comprised of Karan, Gaurav Bhalla and Abhinav Chugh.

The activity was aimed to educate the students regarding the real world investing dynamics and the importance of decision making. Evaluation of the performances was done on the basis of question answer rounds that further enlightened the students.
