Jawaharlal Nehru University has been given financial aid by the Higher Education Funding Agency (HEFA) of over Rs. 450 crores. This sum is for the construction of new academic buildings, research centres, and hostels at the university.
The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has received financial assistance of Rs. 455.02 crore from the Centre’s Higher Education Funding Agency (HEFA). The centre has provided this aid for the construction of new academic buildings, research centres, and hostels at the JNU campus. Additionally, the funds will also be used for the establishment of Advanced Animal Research Facility. The vice-chancellor of JNU, M Jagdesh Kumar, said that this facility will be important for carrying out research on rare, communicable, and non-communicable diseases including some infectious agents such as the novel coronavirus.
Apart from that, the funds will also be used for the installation of an integrated and unified Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. The Registrar of JNU, Pramod Kumar, gave a statement in which he said that this ERP system will ensure that all administrative and academic processes are operated entirely by using online means in an integrated manner.
He further said that this system will make all the processes going on in the varsity efficient and time-bound. Vice-chancellor Kumar also added that the funds provided by the HRD Ministry’s HEFA will be utilized for the construction of hostels for students and academic buildings for the Atal Bihari Vajpayee School of Management and Entrepreneurship and the School of Engineering, Trans-Disciplinary Academic Research, Advanced Instrumentation Research Facility, Advanced Animal Research Facility, Special Centre for e-Learning, Incubation Centre for start-up companies, and Lecture Hall Complex.

Every year, approximately 1.3 lakh students apply for the JNU Entrance Examination (JNUEE) but only about 2,000 of them get admission. The Special Centre for e-learning will impart education by offering online degree programmes to all the students who could not be admitted to JNU, added the vice-chancellor.
Kumar also said that this will also be in tune with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) of increasing the gross enrolment ratio. JNU's new Advanced Animal Research Facility and Advanced Instrumentation Research Facility (AIRF) will increase the research capability of the varsity and it will also be made available for the other institutions of the country as a national facility. He expressed his gratitude to the team of JNU officials who organised the HEFA proposal and informed that the construction of new buildings and facilities would begin soon.
