The Round 5 seat allotment results of JoSAA 2017 were out on July 16, 2017, and only one seat vacant in IITs. The seat that remained vacant in Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar remained unclaimed even after Round 5. However, around 69 seats in various IITs that were not confirmed by students were reassigned in Round 5. Currently, around 421 seats are vacant in GFTIs, NITs and IIITs. The Round 6 seat allotment results will be declared on July 18, 2017.
Students can withdraw seats until the sixth round. JoSAA will still conduct two or three rounds of seat allotment and the authorities are expecting zero vacancies this year. JoSAA is conducting the admission process for GFTIs, IITs, NITs and IIITs for the third consecutive year.

The candidates who are waiting for subsequent rounds must note that JoSAA will not allow any student to withdraw admission in the seventh and final round. JoSAA will declare seventh round seat allotment results on July 21, 2017, and the admission process might close on the same day.
The candidates who will get a seat in subsequent rounds must pay the seat acceptance fee and confirm the admission within the stipulated date. Similarly, the candidates have to download the provisional seat acceptance or allotment letter and report to the institute.

The one seat that remained vacant in IIT Bhubaneswar under ST category is likely to remain unfilled. An official associated with JoSAA revealed that none of the candidates under ST category is eligible for the seat anymore.
