The High Court of Karnataka has taken up a hearing on a plea filed by KCET 2022 repeater students seeking justice against the KEA’s rule of not calculating PUC 2 marks for determining KCET 2022 ranks. Almost 24,000 students who appeared for PUC 2 exams last year attended KCET 2022. However, all these students were shocked when KCET 2022 results were out and KEA did not consider their PUC 2 marks. However, candidates who appeared for PUC 2 exams this year and KCET 2022 had 50:50 weightage for PUC marks and KCET marks. On August 8, 2022, the High Court stalled the document verification and counselling process of KCET 2022 till further orders.

Some of the repeater students alleged that the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) did not inform students through a press note on the non-inclusion of PUC 2 marks. All these 24,000 students came to know about it only after the announcement of KCET 2022 ranks. Repeater students call it unfair and they are demanding equal justice at part with students who passed PUC in 2022.
Meanwhile, KEA has taken up the online document verification of the Caste and Income certificates submitted by the candidates. This year, the entire document verification process will be online. On the other hand, the main counselling process will be subject to court orders.
Last year, PUC 2 exams were cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and all students were declared ‘Pass’ basis their previous academic performance. KEA is in a critical stage where it was not in a position to take the previous year’s marks into consideration. If the court delivers a positive decision for repeaters, there will be a different controversy from other students who passed PUC exams this year. The entire ranking scenario and merit will change if a positive decision is taken on behalf of repeaters.
