KIIT & KISS Come Together to Fight COVID-19

KIIT and KISS come together to fight COVID-19 in Orissa. From setting up COVID-19 hospitals to distributing food items and essentials, to free education, these two institutions are fighting the pandemic in the state.

Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences  (KISS) Bhubaneswar have come together to fight COVID-19 in Odisha.  Odisha is one of the many states in India which has been hit hard by the Pandemic and to help those in need KIIT and KISS have worked tirelessly.

KIMS a constituent of KIIT Deemed University has established four COVID hospitals with the support of the Govt.of Odisha. These hospitals are located in Bhubaneswar and three tribal-dominated districts of Odisha fully dedicated to COVID-19 patients and their treatment. The hospitals have a combined bed capacity of 1200 and is the first standalone COVID hospital in the country.

KIIT and KISS have also reached out to various groups in the state which are facing a loss of livelihoods due to prolonged lockdown. The institutions distributed food materials and other essential commodities to over 3 lakh people hit hard by the pandemic including migrant labours, people living in slums, and daily wagers. The ensured that these groups have enough allowances to meet the expenses for the three months.

The two institutions are also providing groceries and allowances for miscellaneous expenses to 40 orphanages, old age homes, and leprosy centers in the Kandhamal district. KISS have adopted and are taking care of about 100 such orphans and providing them monthly allowance ranging from Rs. 5000 to Rs. 10000, depending upon the family size. They will also be provided free education at KIIT.

Prof. Achyuta Samanta Founder is the force behind this. The deemed to be University will also provide free education to the children whose parents/ guardians have lost their lives due to COVID-19. This will be applicable for two academic years.KISS has also taken adequate measures to keep its students safe and healthy during these unprecedented times. KISS was one of the early institutes to start online classes and has been able to carry on the academic schedule without any disruption.
