The district sports office (DSO) has received sports quota applications from class X and XII students, who contested at the state and national level in the 2015-16 academic year. Under the quota, the class XII students will be awarded with grace marks, in case the student fails any subject in the board exam.
The official also said that those SSC and HSC students, who gave the exams this year, are eligible for the applications. An official from the Kolhapur divisional board of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) said that the marks offered under the sports quota are used as grace marks for the students' benefit. These marks are only used in case any of the eligible students fail to clear a subject.
"The students who participated in state, national and international sports contests can apply for the quota. The official could not specify the number of applications received. The applications for the same were made available at all the schools and junior colleges. They had to be filled and submitted to the DSO before April 29. We will scrutinise the number of applications soon. A validation will be conducted later to check the authenticity of the applications through inspection of records."
