Labour Ministry: Fewer than 1% of Registered Job Seekers get Placed

According to the Labour Ministry, as few as 1% of the job-seekers who have registered themselves with employment exchange are able to get jobs in India. The information was presented in the parliament on Monday, July 24, 2017.

As per the data recorded till September 30, 2015, only 0.56% of the candidates were able to secure jobs. In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Labour Minister, Bandaru Dattatreya, said that only 2,53,900 out of 4,48,52,500 registered job aspirants were placed.

According to the records of 2014, 4,82,61,100 candidates had registered for employment exchange in search of jobs, however only 0.7% i.e. 3,38,500 candidates were successfully able to bag job offers.

The data also show that the percentage of candidates who were able to secure jobs has been decreasing over the years. In 2013, 0.7% of the registered candidates secured jobs, whereas, in 2012, the percentage was slightly higher i.e. 0.9%.

This data was put forth in the parliament when the Minister was asked to address queries related the number of people employed as well as those who were offered jobs through employment exchange in the last 3 to 4 years.

Answering another query, the minister said that the labour ministry will be executing the National Career Service (NCS) in mission mode to provide better job opportunities and employment related services.

The service will enable users to match job profiles of candidates across the requirements set by the employer. Career counselling and vocational guidance will be among the other services that will be provided by the NCS.

The Minister also informed that the NCS is expected to organise 540 job fairs in the upcoming job session.
