The High Court of Madras informed all the medical colleges in Puducherry to change Rs. 3.5 lakh for admission. Fee Fixation Committee has recommended the fee structure which has been further approved by the High Court. The High Court issued the directive while hearing a plea filed by N. Lakshana Sree and others. The petitioners challenged the order of the single judge who rejected the cap of Rs. 3.5 lakh for admission in medical colleges in March 2016. According to the order issued by the single judge, the fee structure was applicable only for the academic session 2016-17. Dissatisfied with the decision of the single judge, M. Lakshana Sree along with two members filed a petition in Madras HC challenging the single judge order.

The High Court of Madras has now given its judgement favouring many students who are deprived of seeking admission in medical colleges due to the exorbitant fee structure. The counsel representing the petitioners also argued the same and indicated that many colleges charge an exorbitant fee for the admission to medical courses. Therefore, there is a need to fix a fee structure that facilitates students belonging to various categories to take up medical courses, the counsel submitted.
The fee structure fixed by Fee Fixation Committee is still reasonable and medical aspirants hailed the decision of the High Court.

Earlier, various private PG medical colleges across Pondicherry granted admission to around 90 students who did not take part in the Centralised Admission Process. These colleges charged high amount of fee from the students and violated the norms. However, MCI cancelled those admissions on the grounds of violation of norms.
