The Madras High Court has asked the Central Government to form a committee to take a decision on the issue of providing OBC reservation in all-India seats (AIQ) managed by Tamil Nadu for MBBS/ BD admission. The committee will include representatives from the Centre, state and Medical Council of India.
The first bench of Chief Justice AP Sahi and Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy made it clear that any decision taken by the committee for OBC quota in NEET will only be applicable from the next academic year. The bench informed that it was not passing a positive order to provide the reservation only in view of settled law that courts cannot interfere in policy matters of the government, unless in the matters where the fundamental rights come into the picture or are affected.
Meanwhile, The Tamil Nadu School Education Minister informed that the state will provide free NEET UG coaching for the students who will be appearing for the examination. Earlier, the state stopped offering free coaching to NEET aspirants as it was clashing with public examinations. But now the exam got postponed to 13th September due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the government has decided to offer free coaching to the students to help them prepare for the same and to ease out the stress and anxiety that the students have been facing due to the delay.
