The first convocation ceremony of Mahatma Gandhi University, Nalgonda took place on May 5, 2017, at MNR Convention Centre. Vice-Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University, Prof. M. Jagadish Kumar delivered the convocation address and Governor of Telangana and Andhra State, Shri. E.S.L. Narasimhan awarded the degrees.
Addressing the students, Shri. E.S.L Narasimhan urged the students to carry out research activities that are beneficial to the society. There is a need to come up with creative innovations, and it is possible only with the help of the youth community. The research works taken up by the students must figure out solutions to various challenges and problems faced by the society in the areas of food security, agriculture and health etc.
He also indicated that the teachers need to instil moral values in the students, and there is a need to enhance value-based education.
The Governor also exhorted the students not to use copy-paste material in their thesis and research works. He also expressed his concern about the number of research scholars that a single faculty member is guiding.
Delivering the convocation address, Prof. M. Jagadish Kumar said that the society has many expectations from the varsity graduates, and there is a need to link the students with varsity after the completion of course. Graduates should stand as ambassadors of the varsities in the society. He also pointed that various technological innovations are coming up in which students can provide their inputs and help farmers in rural areas. The most unfortunate thing is that the country is relying on profit-driven innovations, he concluded.
