Following the footsteps of other states in the country, Meghalaya government has also announced that it will distribute laptops to meritorious students who excel in class X and XII examinations conducted by Meghalaya State Board, CBSE, ICSC and ISC.
Keeping its commitment, the Meghalaya government on Friday 20th January handed over 178 laptops to talented and serious students who had shown excellent results in their board examinations conducted in the year 2016.
For the distribution of laptops, the government organised an event where Ampareen Lyngdoh, State Information and Technology minister presided over the function. Addressing the students, parents and teachers, the minister said that education was a capital investment and it is a permanent asset to all.
He said that the state government honours the dedication and hard work of the students. In order to recognise those efforts, the government has come up with a small gift, which will send a loud message to students and motivate them to perform better in the examinations. The government also wants to inculcate a sense of discipline into the minds of the students.
He further stated that IT department of the state has always been at the forefront in building the IT skills in the state. It has carried out studies to find out such skills required by the industry. Now, students from the rural areas also show exceptional marks in their examination in class X and XII board examinations.
Additionally, the state has also designed and launched a programme to provide training to students. D P Wahlang, Commissioner and Secretary of the state, said that the award which was started in 2007 would also cover students from class X CBSE schools from next year onwards.
