According to Major General (retd.) Kas Bhullar, existence of meritorious schools in Punjab has made a huge impact in the state as now students who had very little chances to make it to the top IITs and NITs, are now getting selected in these top notch institutes. Mr. Kas Bhullar is also the Project Director, Society for Promotion of Quality Education for Poor and Meritorious Students of Punjab of Meritorious schools. He also said that within a span of two years, the education scenario of Punjab has been changed.
Eligibility for the meritorious schools depends on the marks obtained by the students. Irrespective of their economic background, students who have passed their matriculation examination from government schools in Punjab are eligible to apply.
The top cream of students are separated from the rest and are taught together. This has been done in public, convent schools and in coaching centres students who have the potential and capability to perform well are put together so that they can perform using their full potential and are able to fulfill their dreams without hesitation.
Further, these students have to get admitted in top notch colleges after 10+2. Apart from the educational skills required to master different subjects, these students also have to work upon their english as they come from rural background where most of the students have had education up to matriculation in ‘Punjabi Medium’.
